“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

Oh the places you’ll go – Dr. Seuss

Touch of light

[exif id=”6173″]

An experiment in a black and white low key portrait.  Subect was placed very close to the light source to ensure the most light falloff and highest contrast across her face.  This was a single light source; a 47 inch PCB octabox placed less than a foot from the subject.  The target was metered for an F16 exposure at the brightest spot.  The softbox has been cropped out of the picture.   The idea was to experiment with a few different single light settings and gauge the details of light falloff and contrast based on softbox location and amount of diffusion.  I wanted a very moody atmosphere so I asked her to look down.  Shutter speed was 1/125th of a second which is the sync speed of the D810, but that does not matter for the flash output, only for the ambient light.
